Wordpress is now all the rage and there is just nothing this state-of-the-art, yet simple CMS can do. Apparently, wordpress can put web-designers out of business looking at the sheer flexibility this Content Management System has.
The best part about wordpress is that you could go live within minutes. Thousands of themes are available which you could use if you want to change the look of your blog/site.
This post is a brief, systematic tutorial on how to set-up and install wordpress on your hosting account as quickly as possible. We assume that you already purchased a domain.
Step 1: Point domain to your hosting provider’s name server.
No matter who you purchase your domains from, you must get to the “manage domains” part of your account, select “custom nameservers” and input the nameservers of the hosting account you would like to choose. Nameservers would typically look like this:
Ns1.hostingprovidername.com
Ns2.hostingprovidername.com
Click on save.
Step 2: Enter your Hosting account’s Cpanel and add a “Add-on Domain”
Your hosting provider would have given you login details for your hosting accounts back-end manager called Cpanel. After you login, try to find the icon that says “ Add on Domains”. Click on that and it will ask you to enter domain name. Input your new domain name on which you would wordpress to be on.
Step 3: Use Fantastico’s 3- click installation
After you complete step 2 successfully, head over to the cpanel home and find “fantastico” – an icon that has a smiley face. Once you click on that icon, you will enter the fantastico menu. Find “wordpress” on the left-hand navigation panel. Click on it and it will automatically guide you and help you with your installation.
Things to Remember while Installing wordpress:
Decide early on how you want your blog address to look like. For instance, some companies would want their blog to be identified as such; so they choose a structure like http://companyname.com/blog. If you want it this way, you must enter “blog” or any other name you would like to give to your blog in the empty space provided at “directory name” while installation.
