Some Mistakes Most Businesses Do With Their Websites

Friday, November 13th, 2009

Every business must have a website; that explains why we are here. However, not every business uses websites the right way. Some businesses have websites because someone told them to have one or perhaps because they saw that every other business seems to have a website. Here are some of the blunders businesses do with regards to their websites:

  • Put it up and let it be: Just because every business in the entire world seems to have a business, it doesn’t mean you put a website up and let it be. If you just had to “let it be”, it would do you no good. You can do a lot more than just have 5 pages that go like “ About Us”,” Why Us?”,” Contact Us”, etc. Websites are your sales staff in print; they could communicate, follow-up, persuade and even convince when you weren’t even looking. How could you let go of an opportunity like that?
  • Not using it to communicate: Starting from the possibility of saying what you wanted to say through media like blogs and articles right on your website all the way to thinking about setting a system that can constantly be in touch with your present and potential customers, websites can do all the heavy-lifting for your business. You can  talk to your customers, vendors and others through your blog. You could take surveys and polls. You could ask your customers to give you testimonials and you could announce new arrivals. How about explaining your products and services in detail? Showing customers various ways to use your products? Endless possibiiitiies exist,  which one of them are you going to put to use?
  • Not generating leads: Businesses need revenue to survive and lead generation is a crucial aspect of your business. Conventional methods rarely work anymore and it is concepts like opt-in marketing and permission marketing that rule the roost today. They are popular because they are not intrusive like tele-marketing for instance.
